On this tour you see not only Jordan’s popular attractions, but have the chance to taste the country’s cuisine in local eateries and restaurants, plus enjoy a hands-on a cooking session. Certainly you will not miss crispy Falafel, creamy Hummus, tasty and spicy Mezze, Bedouin Zarb and the national dish Mansaf. The combination of history, culture and cuisine gives you a different way to understand the county and its people. During Ramadan, 02 April to 01 May 2022, we are not able to offer this tour, as during daytime many restaurants and cafés are closed.

Day 1
Amman Airport – Amman

Amman Airport

Ahlan Wa Sahlan – Welcome to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan! Our representative meets you with a signage before the immigration and assists you with the procedure. After you collect the luggage and pass the customs, the representative matches you with your driver. The ride to the hotel in Amman takes around 50 minutes. Check-in, rest of the day at leisure. In the evening welcome dinner at one of the local restaurants. In case your flight to Amman arrives very late the welcome dinner will be shifted to the second day.

Day 2
Amman – As Salt – Amman City Tour – Amman

As Salt

Head 30 minutes to the town of As Salt. In the old historic town see the 19th century architecture, houses with long arched windows. Walk along Hammam Street with its market and stroll along picturesque narrow streets. Or do the Salt Harmony Trail passing by heritage homes, mosques and churches, symbols that the people of Salt live together peacefully since centuries. Stop at nice viewpoints over the city; the Abu Jaber Mansion housing now the Historic Old Salt Museum and the Archaeological Museum are worth a visit too.

Amman City Tour

Back in Amman, for 2.5 hours explore more of the bustling capital of Jordan. Though already mentioned in the Bible as Rabbat Ammon, the city is modern with only a few ancient attractions we visit today. Head downtown where we try some delicious local foods such as Falafel, Hummus, Ful and the sweet dessert Kanafeh. Stroll along the vibrant alleys of the Souq with its different shops and stalls to the Roman Theatre. Built in the 2nd century it offered space for 6,000 spectators. Then to the Citadel hill with remains from the Roman to the early Islamic period and a small Archaeological Museum. Return to your hotel in Amman.

Day 3
Amman – Dead Sea Beach – Madaba – Dana Reserve – Petra

Dead Sea Beach

Start the day with a drive to the lowest point on earth, the Dead Sea beach. Enjoy this natural wonder by taking the chance, to float on the salty buoyant waters, and rub your body with the dark mud found on its shores.

Madaba

Then we drive to Madaba, where you can find the famous 6th century mosaic map of Jerusalem and the Holy Land at St. George’s church as well as the other mosaics in Archaeological Museum. In Madaba we have a traditional lunch at a popular restaurant, to be found in one of the restored old houses.

Dana Reserve

Proceed southwards to the Dana village, the base for visiting the nature reserve with the same name. Meet your local guide and start with your walk along terraced gardens and always great views of Wadi Dana. Your guide will tell you about the reserve and its fauna and flora.

Petra

Back in the village we make our way to your hotel in Petra, check-in and freshen up. In the evening, Mansaf, the country’s national dish, will be served at local restaurant. It is made of lamb cooked in jameed, dried yoghurt, with rice, taking hours to prepare. Overnight in Petra.

Day 4
Petra – Petra Visit – Wadi Rum

Petra Visit

Today, explore the red rose city, Petra, the top attraction of Jordan. Petra was first established around the 6th century B.C. by the Nabataean Arabs, a nomadic tribe who settled in the area and laid the foundation of a commercial empire that extended into Syria. Together with your guide pass the canyon, the so called Siq, to see the most beautiful monument: the Treasury. Continue via the Street of Facades to the Royal Tombs and Pharaoh’s Castle. After around 2 hours the guide says farewell to you at the restaurant area; free time to explore Petra on your own. We recommend to climb the 800 stairs to the Monastery El Deir.

Wadi Rum

In the afternoon, we drive 1.5 hour to the protected area of Wadi Rum and proceed to your camp run by Bedouins. Here you enjoy a culinary highlight of Jordan, Zarb. Chicken, lamb and vegetables are cooked for hours underground with the result of tender and tasty meat. After the yummy dinner enjoy the night at the camp.

Day 5
Wadi Rum – Cookery Course Amman – Amman

Wadi Rum

Hop in a 3 hours 4×4 Jeep Ride and explore the amazing desert scenery of Wadi Rum with your local Bedouin guide. Wadi Rum is a vast, silent landscape of the ancient riverbeds and rock formations, the most magnificent desert of Jordan. You see the Khazali Canyon with rock inscriptions, red sand dunes and a natural rock bridge.

Amman

From the desert we head four hours to the hotel in Amman for freshen up. Later we start a cooking session at Beit Sitti, the “Grandmother’s House” in the neighbourhood of Jabal Al Weibdeh. In the next two hours you learn to cook traditional Arabic dishes. And certainly you enjoy a dinner prepared by your own hands. Return to your hotel in Amman.

Latest check-out from the room is 12:00 noon. According to departure time we pick you up and drive you to Amman Airport to say farewell to Jordan!

• 4x4s in Wadi Rum are old vehicles (no A/C, no seat belt) and belong to the local Bedouin association.
• It is not allowed to bring drones or telescopes without permission into Jordan.
